Sandy's Story: I lost my job because of cutbacks

Teachers assess every day all day and they know what children need support. They do not need the Government to give them more administrative tasks; they need to focus on their actual teaching.

I lost my job as an Education Assistant because of cutbacks to education in 2019. I finally got a full-time job again this spring, 5 years later.

As a single mom, with 20 years of experience in my field, it has been a rough go. My family had to step in to support me and I am finally making ends meet.

After seeing so many teachers struggling with curriculum changes, and no Educational Assistants in classrooms, especially considering mandatory testing for children in Kindergarten to Grade 6, the outright negligence of this government flabbergasts me.

Teachers assess every day all day and they know what children need support.

They do not need the Government to give them more administrative tasks; they need to focus on their actual teaching.
They need Education Assistants and professional support, for those children who require assistance to succeed.

The future of Education, and by proxy our children and youth’s potential, is in big trouble with the UCP government’s neglect and budget cuts.
