Mickey Amery: master of coincidences
Hey, Calgary Cross! Ready to meet your MLA? Let's dive in!
Mickey Amery is one of the UCP's favorite poodles, who barks on command whenever Danielle orders it and who is probably making his father, Moe Amery, roll in his grave.
Mickey was elected - just barely - in the 2023 AB general election to represent Calgary-Cross. Mickey won this election by a teensy weensy difference of 514 votes, which ought to be a good indication of his slipping popularity within his electoral district. Wonder why? Wonder no more.
Mickey took the seat first in 2019, but since then, he has truly dazzled his constituency with continual disdain for them, and for his obligations to the province as a whole. Let's go through some of his greatest hits:
October 2023: Who can this be? It's Calgary's own fear mongering monster, Mahmoud Moura, who was charged with hate crimes and has his own repertoire (which we'll share with you a little later on!) and his buddies, Mickey and Danielle. Man! These coincidental connections with hate crime and bigots around Mickey Amery and Marlaina are a surprise! (Source: Ricochet Media, Oct 2023.)
September 11, 2023: Mickey gives Alberta Prosecutors some fantastic advice in a press conference. He instructs Crown prosecutors to "evaluate the risk that the accused will commit another offence if released." Attorneys, meanwhile, look at Mickey with a jaded eye and suggest that that's what they've always BEEN doing, what they're SUPPOSED to do, and what their legal obligation is. Thanks, tips. May 6, 2023: Mickey and Danielle have themselves a funsies little party at his campaign office. At the same time, there were 13 wildfires on the go in Alberta, all of which were classified as out of control with more than 250,000 hectares overrun. What wildfires, amirite?
April 29, 2023: Remember when our little Mickey dusted off his campaign boots and wanted to start again? He had loads of support from all sorts of nice people like this one - Tarik Khan - who cheerfully shared antisemitic posts to his social media. In fact, he had to resign from a multiculturalism council as fall out. But I'm sure Mickey doesn't think that. It's just a coincidence. Right? (Source: CityNews Calgary)
Well sure, you might say. It's just a coincidence that Mickey Amery keeps on being photographed with bigots. And if his boss wants to hang out and ignore forest fires, who is Mickey to say no? Right? I mean, he's clearly working for the people. After all, let's take a look at how Mickey has voted on some pretty impactful bills the UCP government has pushed through in Alberta.
Mickey has voted YEA to:
Bill 22, Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2024, which "enables the transition to a unified health care system of 4 sector-based provincial health agencies." Bill 22 will separate Alberta Health Services into four segments (primary care, acute care, continuing care and mental health and addiction) who will be run by four new health agencies. Wanna guess who those agencies report to? Adriana Lagrange, Our Lady of Covid, who is somehow convinced that creating FOUR NEW AGENCIES will be quicker than sticking with one. Sure, Jan.
Bill 20, The Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024, which makes it very clear that any municipal councillor anywhere in Alberta better not piss off Ric McIver. Now, the UCP government has set up Ric McIver to turf any councillor he doesn't like or approve of, forcing municipalities to spend millions on hand-counting votes (because the UCP doesn't like computers - those big old machines are scary!) and intervene into any bylaw they deem unconstitutional. THIS is your Freedom party?
Bill 18, The Provincial Priorities Act, 2024, comes hot on the heels of authoritarianism with Bill 20 and says that no municipality in Alberta is permitted to work directly with the federal government. All interactions with the feds MUST go through Dani and her cronies. Federal entities included within the scope of the Act include the federal Crown, federal Ministers, federal Crown corporations, federal agencies, boards, commissions, councils and bodies. Long story short: Mickey believes that Alberta cities cannot manage their own affairs. Full stop.
Bill 1, Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act is Danielle's baby: the "nuh uh" tool she intends to leverage for anytime that she decides to disagree with the rest of Canada. It is, in the words of many, "turning Alberta in a banana republic" and an embarassment for rational and normal Albertans. And Mickey loves it!
Good boy, Mickey! Now dance for a treat!
