Another update from our foundar, Marg Tokar...
Hello everyone!
Its been another exciting week in UCP land.
The big news was AHS restructuring. More boards, more committees, and more advisers - the only thing missing is any additional doctors, nurses or healthcare workers. The UCP history with reforming any aspect of healthcare makes the new venture less than promising.
The centralizing of EMS Dispatch is still a nightmare. Just two weeks ago Calgary experienced an alert, two nights in a row, which meant zero ambulances available for most of those two nights. The privatization of DynaLIFE was disastrous. Simple lab tests were backed up for up to eight weeks. The UCP were forced to reverse that decision but the had signed a 25 year contract with DynaLIFE and no one is saying how much that is costing the taxpayers now that they’ve had to back out.
Then there was a Manning report. When I finish reading all 113 pages I’ll put out a synopsis.
Now to some housekeeping issues. First,I’d like to introduce Tracey. One of Tracey’s areas of expertise is research. She is currently working on assimilating data and info on the six ridings that we’ve targeted which will be invaluable to us. Thanks so much Tracey!
It's been suggested to me that for recognition purposes we should have a group name so we’re taking suggestions. Also, would anyone who joined using their X handle please forward your name along with the X handle so that I can correlate them?
And while you’re doing that I’d appreciate it if you’d take a few minutes to submit a short note, just talking about your motivation in joining, and what areas you feel most comfortable contributing in. For example, are you skilled in technology, have you ever served on a volunteer board, are you an organizer, are you good with people, are you creative? Please contact me at my email address. [email protected]
We now have 270 members and for one week that’s a great start. Recruiting like-minded people is a means by which we all can contribute. I want to thank you all again for putting yourselves forward and standing up for what is important to you, to all of us. You all deserve a pat on the back.
In closing keep the goal in mind, the end of the UCP!
Thanks!
Marg
