AB Resistance Statement on Police Fatality

We have recently been made aware of a police fatality in September 2024 at The Carriage House Hotel and Conference Center in Calgary, AB.

Regretfully, our volunteer board of directors was unaware of this incident when scheduling our upcoming live event on October 26, 2024. We acknowledge the tragedy of this loss of life and cannot begin to understand the grief it has caused the victim's friends and family.

We have given this decision great consideration and reviewed whether to cancel the event out of consideration for the victim, Jon Wells.

As a part of our mission to bring decency back to politics for all Albertans, including First Nations communities, we have consulted with external experts, and we have made the decision to move ahead with our event as originally scheduled.

We recognize this may be difficult for some attendees, and we did not make this decision lightly. It is our hope that by bringing awareness both to this tragedy and to the broader political landscape in Alberta, we can contribute to the creation of a more safe, more secure, and more respectful Alberta for all.

Furthermore, in light of this tragedy we will endeavor to honor the memory of Jon Wells with a moment of silence, and encourage all attendees to offer their sympathies and support to Jon's friends, family and community.

We look forward to collaboration and cooperation with our members, speakers, and guests to continue working towards peace, respect, and democracy in Alberta.
